Puppy Pictures
The gang turned five weeks on the morning of Friday, July 18th and everyone
is doing very well. Lita showed us Saturday morning that she is ready for the
kids to make the jump to "normal" food by, well, I think the proper word is
"regurgitating" her lunch right there on the floor in front of her eagerly awaiting
children. You know, if my mom had done that when I was small, I'd have most
likely jumped back and probably would have duplicated what she had done.
Not this bunch, though! They all rolled their sleeves and pants legs up and
jumped in for a feast!
Okay, okay, I know this is the way Mother Nature intended to be the natural
way of doing things, BUT, we AIN'T going to do things naturally in our
house. We're going to be completely unnatural and do things just a little
neater. So, after Lita has eaten, she will spend the next hour or so away from
the kids, giving her meal time to make it past the point of no return. We, in
turn, will feed the pups the food of our choice, and that'll just have to be good
enough.
This day in time, I know more and more people are wanting to be green and
natural, and whatever else they may call it, but as close as we're going to get
is feeding them one of the very best, all natural, premium, human grade pet
foods: Wellness.
The future parents of the pups have been visiting and making their choices,
so now we pretty much know who is going home with who, and we also know
their new names. We'll start using their new names, to help them learn to
recognize them sooner.
The first puppy picked out by the first person on our waiting list is, now,
Sage. Sage was Riker, by the way. Sage, not only was the first picked, but
was the first puppy born, and being the kind of girl she is, was the first to
have stand-up ears. Her ears standing up this early is unusual, for some
take many weeks to stand up.
Here are pictures taken Saturday, the day after their fifth week old birthday in
birth order.

After feeding, then after a barrage of pooping, it's time to clean up, at which
time we have a small window of time when some pictures can be taken before
one of these wise guys makes a big mess, in one manner or another. Here's
a few pictures taken last night before we turned the lights out.
It's funny, but for the first couple of weeks the pups mainly slept and ate.
About 85% of the time they slept and 15% of the time, they ate. Then, once
their eyes and ears had gained use and they had walking down pat, "play"
was brought into their repertoire. Once "play" was brought in, everything else
kind of took a back seat. Then, after they learned to play, weaning began,
bringing in eating smushed-up dog food....which brought on their newest
activity, pooping! These talented kids turn a cup of dog food into 3 cups of
poop! Haven't figured that one out yet. So now we're at sleeping 40% of the
time, eating is hanging in at 15%, pooping is running a close third at 10%, and
playing has jumped way in the lead at 90% of the time. Yeah, I know, that
doesn't add up to 100%, but these kids have it where it counts; what's the
word? They "multitask"! 30% of their time eating, they're playing, sometimes
in the food, sometimes not. And 30% of their time pooping, they're playing,
sometimes in the poop, and so on...
The picture with Cisco laying his head on the stuffed bone was taken over a
week ago and somehow was tucked away in a picture file until now.
